Summary
Our Warehouse Lead-Hand oversees Warehouse Associates in Shipping/Receiving and Work In Process (WIP) to ensure the efficient flow of goods into the facility, in line with plant policies and procedures. They are responsible for ensuring materials are received on time to meet production schedules and maintain high-quality output. The Lead-Hand ensures smooth operations for receiving and shipping materials during their shift, minimizing any impact on production schedules, and acts on behalf of the Warehouse Supervisor in their absence.
The Lead-Hand also ensures product manufacturing follows internal and external standards, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, SQF, and WorkSafe BC requirements.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee Warehouse Associates in accordance with plant policies and procedures SOPs to ensure incoming materials are efficiently received and stored in the facility.
- Support efficient staging of all raw materials required to keep production cooking and packaging on schedule to prevent shortages at all times.
- Manage the Warehouse Associates by setting priorities, assisting where needed and filling in for absences.
- Ensure all Team Members are properly trained in their primary job function and are cross trained in all Warehouse Associate Duties. Ensure each Team Member receives timely feedback on an ongoing basis. Bring training concerns and performance issues to the attention of the Warehouse Supervisor and HR. Work with QA to ensure suitable follow-up safety training is provided to new hires.
- Ensure all Team Members respond to requests for materials from the cooking and production lines as top priority.
- Train team on scan gun and barcoding system. Ensure team receives raw materials and packaging in a timely manner and enter into company software (Syspro).
- Ensure team completes material transfers to allow scheduling to close jobs and accurately enter and process receiving paperwork to forward to Finance without delay.
- Trigger re-order of critical materials on a daily/weekly basis working closely with the Purchasing team.
- Complete a weekly review of cycle counts on dry goods and materials.
- Review and check dry materials for compliance to SQF standards.
- Champion a safety-first work environment and ensure clearly defined Company policies and procedures are strictly followed. Ensure all Team Members operate within standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Standards.
- Work with Warehouse Supervisor for team shift schedules to include: workstation assignments/rotations, team member training and cross-training, vacations and breaks, overtime assignment and shift rotations.
- Promote a positive working culture that supports the Company’s philosophy of inclusion and is based on open and honest dialogue and involvement of all Team Members that values their input and engagement in improving performance. Communicate with other Shift Lead-Hands, Supervisors and Plant Manager.
- Provide input and suggestions for improvements to the Warehouse Supervisor regarding shipping and receiving, materials storage and appropriate staffing levels.
- Keep the Warehouse clean to guarantee no contamination or loss of materials.
- Carry out any relevant duties as directed by the Plant Manager or Supervisors.
- Carry out other duties as required.
Education & Experience
- Minimum two (2) years of experience, including one (1) year in a supervisory role; food manufacturing experience preferred.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement HACCP, SQF, SOPs, SSOP’s, GMPs, and preventative maintenance programs applicable to food production and food safety principles.
- Strong ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Forklift Certification required.
- Availability to work weekends as necessary.

Compensation, Benefits & Perks
Daiya’s compensation offerings are based on a pay-for-performance philosophy. The pay range for this position is $23.75/per hour. The shift for this position is from 06:00 to 14:30.
