Requirements
5+ years of relevant experience in Risk Management and Environmental Health & Safety, ideally within the food manufacturing or beverage industry.
Knowledgeable of California OSHA, federal, state, and local safety health regulations and procedures
Available to work flexible schedules, including some evenings & nights
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (e.g. risk management, safety, engineering, environmental engineering, or public health)
Job Description
Position Summary: The Risk and Safety Manager provides guidance in developing, administering, and implementing safety programs to create a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. This role offers technical and administrative support to both management and employees, ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations. Responsibilities include reviewing, updating, and communicating safety procedures, promoting employee safety awareness through engaging training, and executing the tactical strategy of the Company Safety Program. This specialist collects and interprets data from job-hazard analyses, investigates safety trends, and reports findings to the Director of Risk and Safety. Additionally, they serve as a key stakeholder in Department Safety Committees, manage incentive programs, act as the Safety Officer during emergencies, and promote wellness and positive behaviors through a recognition program.
Essential Job Duties
Assists in preparing annual business and functional plans and other planning documents to support GTLF’s mission, goals, and objectives in areas like industrial hygiene, hazardous substance management, and safety coordination.
Assesses GTLF's compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Leads cost-efficient program development and resource allocation for efficient operations within assigned responsibilities.
Identifies safety and health hazards and risks to employees, facilities, vendors, and the environment, preparing reports to assess associated risks and trends.
Recommends effective, cost-efficient controls to minimize safety and health risks, ensuring compliance with regulations and best practices.
Oversees department projects, including task assignment, team building, and training.
Makes disciplinary recommendations to Human Resources and management to foster a culture of safety and accountability.
Coordinates and tracks completion of long-term safety and health projects.
Manage and analyze Workers’ Compensation claims, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, process claims, review forms, and provide necessary documentation to employees, supervisors, and other stakeholders.
Serve as a technical resource to employees concerning Workers Compensation; respond to inquiries and provide technical information concerning related laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; respond to calls from employees, third party administrator, physicians, medical facilities and others
Oversee departmental projects and safety initiatives by assigning tasks, training staff, and building effective teams. Manage, track, and ensure the successful completion of long-term safety and health projects.
Prepares and maintains a variety of records, logs, correspondence and files related to assigned activities; maintain OSHA records; update District policies as needed
Assists the Director of Risk Management in coordinating training for program-related activities, including training administrative personnel on reporting procedures. Maintains records, logs, and OSHA files, updating policies as necessary.
Performs other related duties as required.
