New Roots Institute is a growing nonprofit that educates people across the country on factory farming’s devastating impacts on people, animals, and the planet, and empowers them to advocate for systemic change in their communities. Our approach is designed to build significant and lasting capacity for the movement to end factory farming.

ABOUT THE POSITION
As the development manager at New Roots Institute, you’ll help to secure the financial resources necessary for New Roots Institute to achieve its mission and goals. You will play a crucial role in prospect research, donor data collection and management, communications with current and prospective donors, and grant writing and reporting.
Details
This remote job will be full-time/40 hours per week. We will consider any U.S.-based applicant (this job is not limited to applicants in the Los Angeles area).
Research and Data Management
- Manage donor data, including logging outreach efforts and compiling reports, and analyze that data to help inform fundraising strategy.
- Research prospective donors and foundations, and organize that information so that it may be used effectively to drive fundraising strategy.
Donor Communication
- Manage the implementation of fundraising strategy with a focus on donor acquisition and retention through ongoing and one-time initiatives.
- Work with the Communications Coordinator and Marketing & Storytelling Specialist to create materials for outreach to current and future donors for various campaigns; including end of year giving and communications to specific donor segments.
- Articulate and document the donor journey, including audience personas, key touchpoints/engagement initiatives, and integration with our digital platforms in order to optimize our systems and processes to provide an excellent experience for current and potential donors.
Grants and Reporting
- Research and analyze potential grant opportunities to drive project management of grant submissions.
- Work with other members of the advancement department to gather data for use in grants and other organizational reports.
Skills Required (Non-Negotiables):
- Fundraising and Development:
- Proven track record in securing financial resources for non-profit organizations.
- Deep understanding of various fundraising strategies (individual giving, foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, etc.).
- Experience in donor cultivation, stewardship, and retention.
- Data Management and Analysis:
- Proficiency in data collection, management, and analysis tools (e.g., CRMs, spreadsheets, data visualization software). Preference will be given to candidates with experience using Hubspot.
- Ability to interpret data and translate it into actionable insights for fundraising strategy.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining donor records and generating reports.
- Communication and Relationship Building:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write compelling grant proposals and donor communications.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders (donors, foundations, board members, staff).
- Ability to articulate New Roots's mission and impact in a clear and persuasive manner.
- Project Management and Organizational Skills:
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Experience in project planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Experience using a collaborative project management tool like Asana.
- Strategic Thinking and Problem-Solving:
- Ability to think strategically and develop innovative fundraising solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify and capitalize on opportunities for growth and development.
Other Requirements (Non-Negotiables):
- Have a desire for honest and direct critique and interest in growing from it.
- Be excellent at not missing details or deadlines.
- Love working hard for a mission you deeply care about—while understanding how to differentiate between working really hard (good) and unsustainable self sacrifice (not so good).
- Be willing to meet people where they are and promote gradual dietary change
- Share vegan values.
- Be able to consistently and happily see beyond your ego to make the best decisions for the organization.
- Have impeccable time management and prioritization abilities.
- Have a strong grasp of English grammar and punctuation, as well as written and verbal communication that you imbue with emotional intelligence.
- Be able and willing to work remotely/independently.
- Attend the annual in-person team meeting. This meeting typically transpires during the last Monday through Friday that falls entirely within the month of August.
Compensation and Benefits
- Compensation is set at $70,000 per year.
- In addition to a collaborative and innovative work environment, full-time hires will be able to take part in our benefits package, including:
