Are you ready for a new beginning?
We need your talent, knowledge and dedication to better our world with biology.
Our purpose points the way
In Novonesis, we know that solutions rooted in biology can help solve humanity’s biggest challenges. Since we began more than a century ago, this has been our guide. It’s how we've gotten so far. And it’s how we'll impact the future. Now, more than ever, the world needs change. And with biosolutions, the possibilities for transformation are endless.
We’re here to better our world with biology.
Join us as our new Bioinformatician/Protein Designer
Right now, we are looking for a team-oriented scientist with competences in bioinformatics, protein design, good programming skills, and flair for working with data. The position will be in R&D, Molecular Discovery, Department of Bioinformatics and Protein Design.
In Molecular Discovery, we integrate several competences from wildtype enzyme and protein discovery, molecular biology, assay development, bioinformatics and protein design to identify and engineer proteins that will enable new and improved biosolutions.
Welcome to the Department of Bioinformatics and Protein Design
The Bioinformatics and Protein Design department helps driving integration of the latest computational tools to capitalize on public and internal data assets in the era where we are faced with a wealth of sequence, structure and experimental data.
We use bioinformatics, data science, machine learning, and AI to identify natural enzymes in close interaction with other departments. We use computational protein design tools to engineer protein backbones to fit production and application needs. We develop and maintain computational tools and data workflows in close collaboration with the other departments in Molecular Discovery.
In this role you’ll make an impact by:
You will represent the Bioinformatics and Protein Design department in an interdisciplinary team to address specific needs across multiple industries. This is a team of dedicated scientists with diverse competences in wild-type enzyme discovery, molecular biology, assay development and screening, and you will contribute with competences in working with protein structures, machine learning/AI, data science and data pipelines.
We bring these competences together to discover and engineer new enzymes and strains. You will enjoy seeing successful protein designs effectively brought to market, helping our customers optimize their processes, save energy, reduce chemicals, and lower the overall environmental impact.
You will work closely with the rest of the Department of Bioinformatics and Protein Design to help ensure a continued development of our bioinformatics, protein design, and data flow capabilities, with a focus on insourcing and developing state-of-the-art machine learning/AI-based methods and maintaining data flows.
This role therefore requires close collaboration, keeping an open mind, and the ability to adapt to changing needs in projects and beyond.
To succeed you must have:
A PhD (or similar experience) in bioinformatics, protein design, computational chemistry, computational biology, data science or related field.
Solid experience in coding or scripting languages, incl. Python, are comfortable developing on a shared code stack and proficient in Linux-based environments
Experience applying machine learning/AI models to protein sequences and/or structures such as pLMs (ESM), inverse folding (ProteinMPNN), and generative models (e.g. RfDiffusion) – or similar.
Experience in applying statistical methods for data analysis and management.
Experience with protein structure and sequence analysis tools
Strong communication skills, an open-minded positive attitude, and a desire to achieve results together with others.
It is an advantage if you have:
Hands-on experience interacting with RESTful APIs and practical use of SQL warehouse data.
Experience developing and maintaining data workflows and pipelines such as Nextflow, Snakemake, or similar.
Proficiency running jobs in High-performance computing environments.
Previous experience with molecular biology or protein biochemistry in industry.
Curiosity to learn new things and drive initiatives to completion (go-do attitude).
A keen interest in a shared ownership on innovation, timely delivery and are a strong team player
Position seniority level will be determined by your background and work experience.
Location: This job will be located in Lyngby, Denmark
Application deadline: Jan 15, 2025
