Our purpose points the way
In Novonesis, we know that solutions rooted in biology can help solve humanity’s biggest challenges. Since we began more than a century ago, this has been our guide. It’s how we’ve gotten so far. And it’s how we’ll impact the future. Now, more than ever, the world needs change. And with biosolutions, the possibilities for transformation are endless.
We’re here to better our world with biology.
Join us as our new Research Scientist
We are looking for a research scientist with a solid track record in advancing protein/enzyme function and/or stability through protein engineering. The position will be in R&D, Molecular Discovery, Department of Diversity and Prototyping.
In Molecular Discovery, we integrate several competences from wildtype enzyme and protein discovery, molecular biology, assay development, bioinformatics and protein design to identify and engineer enzymes that will succeed and become products in industrial biosolutions.
Welcome to Diversity and Prototyping
The department of Diversity and Prototyping consists of 25 scientists and technicians, collaborating with our application colleagues developing new molecules to test in the application. This we achieve through either new molecules, inspired by nature or through tailoring a known enzyme to the application through protein engineering. The department is closely associated with the greater Molecular Discovery function, which is represented by a diverse set of competences all contributing to early-stage innovation through bioinformatics and design to assay and screening.
As part of this role, we offer:
- Exceptional opportunities for professional growth
- A friendly, transparent, and supportive work environment
- A team-oriented structure that values empowerment and collaboration
In this role you’ll make an impact by:
Representing the diversity & prototyping department in an interdisciplinary team to address specific needs across multiple industries. More specifically, you will be supporting and advising our application research colleagues on what type of enzymes or proteins to test and outline strategies to improve lead candidates through protein engineering where needed. Practically, you will be responsible for the cloning and expression of new wild-types or variants. This role therefore requires close collaboration, contribute to an open discussion culture and the ability to adapt to changing needs
in the project and beyond.
To succeed you must have:
- A PhD degree in biotechnology, biochemistry, chemistry or related field.
- Solid enzyme-substrate understanding with the ability to, together with our bioinformatic & design colleagues engineer a molecule for the desired property such as substrate specificity, boosting activity or stabilizing towards an external factor.
- Strong molecular biology foundation (e.g. DNA modification) and preferable experience with Bacillus and Aspergillus or similar expression systems.
- Flair for bioinformatics, data analysis, statistics and programming (e.g. Python, Jupiter notebooks etc.).
- Strong communication skills, an open-minded positive attitude, and a desire to achieve results together with others
Additionally, you must be fluent in English as you will work closely with colleagues of many nationalities.
It’s an advantage if you have:
- Good understanding of assay development and automation
- Experience with project leadership/management and wish to develop it further
