The Research & Development Process Specialist designs, optimizes and validates the product, process/equipment, and packaging parameters to ensure a smooth handover to Operations, increasing efficiency and consistency in production.
Responsibilities:
Assess equipment/process needs and resources for new products
Conduct pre-trial discussions with Production, Quality, Planning and R&D to lay out trial plan and resource needs
Validate product recipe/process parameters through successful test runs prior to production; provide detailed validation reports with clear actions and timelines; follow standard validation and handover procedures prior to full commercialization
Conduct post-trial discussions to summarize key learnings, issues and next steps
Collaborate with product developers, production, and engineering for upscaling activities/trainings
Provide detailed work instructions for every new product with collaboration from production supervisor and leads; Update SOPs and work instructions as needed
Formalize release of new product to operations through completion of the handover process and stakeholder sign-off
Identify process improvements to meet efficiency, product quality, and process control targets
Monitor new equipment/process technologies and propose new solutions
Collaborate with Product Developers in optimizing formulations using new ingredient technologies; update rework and flush wash matrices as needed
Partner with engineering in assessing new technologies and equipment; assist in commissioning new production and packaging lines for operational readiness
Design and implement relevant test protocols through various stages of equipment commissioning
Support operations in root cause analyses and troubleshoot real-time issues in production
Support the TQM/SQF/FSMA requirements; ensure complete documentation for new/improved recipes and processes, SOPs and work instructions, and handover process
Build accessible project documentation in line with NPD procedure by using the appropriate tools; ensure confidentiality on formulas and know-how
Provide monthly reporting to R&D Manager or Senior R&D manager
Build an active network of high commercial value of customers, machine suppliers, researchers, vendors and the international Corbion R&D community
Provide intelligence on innovative raw materials & process technologies that can differentiate our products
Ensure premium performances of the R&D lab equipment by designing standardized pilot-scale processes and maintaining upkeep of lab equipment
Comply with food safety procedures upon new raw material selection, product development or modification and sample preparation; report all food safety and quality issues to immediate supervisor or head of quality
Requirements:
Bachelor s Degree in Food Science or Food Engineering preferred
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment/food product development; ideally in the food/baking industry or ingredients related to the baking industry
Ability to design and follow well defined process steps while maintain a pragmatic attitude
Excellent organizational, communication, and networking skills
Team player using mix of analytical and intuitive thinking
Dynamic and pro-active personality, ability to professionally challenge the status quo while remaining results oriented
Ability to multi-task and work in parallel on different projects
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Manufacturing plant is large, open floor areas with loud machinery, requiring some areas for workers to wear ear protection to guard against noise. Workers are exposed to high temperatures during the summer months. Some work in cold environments during winter months. You will be exposed to a dusty work environment due to raw materials. Materials may contain allergens (eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, sesame seeds, milk, fish, shellfish, wheat).
Workers are required to wear GMP compliant hair and beard nets, company-provided uniforms, and gloves to protect the product from possible contamination. Certain areas require respirators.
