We are looking for a Head of Business Development to shape Bactobio’s commercialisation strategy and to help raise our Series A.

Bactobio is a young London-based deeptech company (2020) using AI, genomics, and synthetic biology to culture previously unculturable microbes and screen them for antimicrobials. Our platform is operational and we regularly discover chemically novel antimicrobials that are effective against some of the biggest infectious diseases in agritech and healthcare.
You will develop and execute our commercialisation strategy, communicating the potential of our platform, and initiating strategic, scientific, and commercial partnerships. In addition, our results to date mean we can now push for a large Series A, with a kick off in H2 2025. Your focus for the Series A will be to supplement current investors with new impact investors that will help push Bactobio forward.

Team
Our Business Development and Operations team is a close-knit group that manages the daily operations and long-term vision of a fast-growing biotechnology company. We run a lean structure with a strong work-ownership mindset and collaborate closely with our scientists to keep the company’s development on track.
Role
Reporting directly to the CEO and working with the BD and Operations team, you will lead the BD team. We are looking for a self-motivated and highly adaptable individual who is committed to creating an impact in a fast-paced environment.
Main Responsibilities:
Shape the commercialisation strategy for our novel antibiotics and fungicides
Initiate licensing agreements for our novel compounds where appropriate
Help secure non-dilutive funding via grant applications
Build partnerships: identify and develop strategic commercial and academic partnerships
Work with the CEO to secure our route to Series A: shaping company development for our next fundraise, assisting with creation of external materials, identifying fundraising opportunities and pitching
Build investor relationships: supporting the CEO in identifying and developing investor relationships in line with company strategy
Manage a team consisting of business development associates and a product lead
You should preferably have:
Educational grounding in science or technology (PhD preferred)
Fundraising experience in startups or VCs
5+ years experience in startups / strategy / consulting / business development
Collaborative drive and good team ethic
A focus on impact, as an individual contributor and by guiding the people around you
First-class problem-solving and a drive to address new challenges quickly
Ability to step outside of your comfort zone and adapt to changing priorities
Excellent written & spoken English
Strong presentation skills and capabilities with Microsoft Office
Exceptional project management skills – proven experience in leading strategic initiatives and handling multiple projects simultaneously
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with diverse stakeholders
Highly organised and detail-oriented, with a focus on delivering high-quality results
