A little about us
We are unlocking the potential of our planet’s unexplored biodiversity to build sustainable solutions with our biotechnology partners whilst demonstrating the value of our world’s undiscovered biology.
At Basecamp Research, we pride ourselves on being a diverse, exciting, fun, and flexible place to work. We are a team of biologists, data scientists & explorers united by a sense of adventure and the belief that nature has already designed the solutions to our planet’s greatest challenges - we just have to go out and discover them!
If you feel passionate about the power of biology to show the inherent value of nature and to build a better world, we’d love to hear from you.
About the role
We are looking for a Director to lead our database growth R&D efforts, developing new methods for continuous improvement on our data generation. This role could be based in our Basecamp Research headquarters laboratory in London, or our Boston laboratory, and will focus on developing methods to support our global biodiscovery work.
You will have the opportunity to build out a database growth R&D team around you, and will identify and strategically prioritize development of new methods for growing the value of our biodiversity database, whether by increasing generated data quality, diversity, or scalability. You will have the opportunity to work closely with Basecamp Research's Collaboration team, who run our global network of biodiversity partners, the Production team, who coordinate continued database growth, and the Data team, who are using the data for novel biotechnology product design and bio-AI development.
The ideal candidate will be an innovative and ambitious thinker with a strong track record in the development of novel molecular biology and next generation sequencing methods, ideally in non-model organisms. They will be comfortable with managing projects that require both wet-lab and computational involvement. They will be experienced with managing a high performing team, have a proven ability to foster collaboration across multidisciplinary teams. They will be able to identify and prioritize R&D workstreams with clear strategic value for the company and be able to deliver to agreed-upon timelines with the data, commercial, and collaborations teams.
