In this position you will lead the vegetable seed R&D plant growing activities throughout Hazera’s stations/Farms (3) in the Netherlands and through external growers in the Netherlands. The R&D NL Stations Manager will have the responsibility to develop the sites management team to execute daily station operations in Greenhouses (Nkas) and Fields, to coordinate, implement and to support breeding programs and technology projects.
For this position, Hazera Seeds is seeking an enthusiastic, results oriented and highly communicative individual with strong agricultural background.
You will be a member of the Global R&D Operations Leadership Team and will have close interaction with colleagues across Hazera’s R&D organization, Product Development & Seed Production.
You will be based in Made (Noord Brabant) and you will need to travel regularly to Hazera’s R&D sites in Rilland and Warmenhuizen.
Role & responsibilities:
- Manage greenhouses (Nkas) and fields growing activities to verify readiness and outcomes as required and on time per station and related seasonality.
- Oversee and assure aligned planning for all plant raising in greenhouse compartments, net houses and open field related activities.
- Lead and implement strict sanitation, safety and quality policies.
- Routinely engage with direct reporting managers, team leads and crop specialists to facilitate improvements and track execution.
- Back up station managers (assume their role) in their absence.
- Establish required protocols and processes to be followed and standardized.
- Liaise with breeding managers on programs plans and develop operational plan and budget.
- Prepare and present periodically activity performance reviews, quantitative and qualitative analysis, ensure data driven decision making based on defined KPIs.
- Create and verify continuous improvement roadmap execution.
- Lead investment projects, from planning to execution, collaborate with supporting functions to consolidate an approved plan. Track and execute according to milestones and expected deliverables.
- Own projects end-to-end as part of the Global R&D Operations roadmap initiatives, engage and collaborate with colleagues in different regions and functions.
Job requirements
- MSc in Agronomy (Crop Science or similar field) and relevant working experience.
- Proven strong people management skills, with past experience managing directly >10 people (preferred managing managers).
- Strong project management experience.
- Background in field or vegetable crop research (preferred), experience in agricultural activities, field trialing and/or vegetables greenhouses operations (strong advantage).
- Knowledge of operational practices, logistics and planning (Lean concepts preferred).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and strong problem-solving capabilities.
- Expertise in MS Office and data analysis applications.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically frequently and to work under variable environmental conditions associated with field trial work
- Fluent in English (must) and Dutch (preferred) languages.
- Valid driver’s license
