About The Role
As Plant Protein Technologist, you will contribute to internal innovation & capability on alternative protein application across different plant-based foods in the Flora Food Group portfolio: creams, cheese, spreads and plant butter.
The focus will be on assessing various alternative proteins and processing technologies to reduce plant protein off-flavour in product applications. You will run internal protein tasting panel to assess protein off-flavour. You will test new proteins and processing technologies to reduce typical plant protein flavour in the model systems and in final products in both lab and pilot scale either internally across different R&D functions or externally in partnership with analytical laboratories or academia.
In this role, you will train to become a knowledge holder on alternative protein off-flavour reduction in plant-based emulsions and gels while also being a strong communicator, to connect the innovation technologies to application.
So, what does it take to be successful in this role?
You have a Master’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology and/ or Food Engineering or strong background in (physical) chemistry towards plant proteins. You have some experience in application of plant proteins in foods or protein ingredient production or come from protein ingredient extraction and processing industry. Experience with a sensory panel (eg conducting taste assessments) would be a plus.
You have good understanding of protein functionalities: solubility, emulsification, gelation, foaming. You are familiar with plant protein off-flavour challenges. You have good knowledge of protein analysis with hands on experience. You are good at data analysis, and you have knowledge in statistical analysis. You are knowledgeable in plant-based emulsion system (eg: cheese, creams, spreads).
You are good at critical thinking with industrial research mindset. You are a problem solver, completer and strong communicator. You show flexibility and willingness to adapt within a fast-changing environment. You show responsibility, willing to own and drive things through to enable delivery. You are a self-starter but can also work in a global framework. You are fluent in English, in both spoken and written.
