Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The Electrical Instrument Technician provides support to maintain and repair electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment by performing the following duties.
- Diagnose electrical issues using drawing references and online PLC and HMI tools to support daily production.
- Calibration of various types of instrumentation devices.
- Online program changes to HMI and PLC programs that will be supported by Engineering.
- Trouble shoot, repair and install industrial electrical motors, PLC’s, HMI’s, various control devices, 3-phase and single-phase branch circuit’s problems, and instruments.
- Install and/or repair wiring, conduit, branch service and power supply for plant equipment and facilities.
- Install/program and troubleshoot adjustable frequency AC and DC motor drives.
- Tests malfunctioning machinery and discusses malfunction with Engineering or maintenance workers, such as Maintenance Mechanic, Maintenance Supervisor to diagnose malfunction.
- Support electrical installation of engineering projects.
- Support to maintain consistent electrical documentation for machine drawings, facility layout and MCC load lines.
- Work on PLC, HMI, Drives, Control Net, Device Net, and Ethernet.
- Provide technical guidance and training to 1 and 2 mechanics respectively as well as help leads, supervisors and manager in troubleshooting and repair of all plant systems.
- Must have knowledge of NEC color code and know how to use the book.
- Diagnose and replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
- Perform trouble shooting, repair and preventative maintenance on a wide variety of equipment, machines and facilities.
- Minimize production downtime due to mechanical and electrical reasons through quick response.
- Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and perform required preventative maintenance actions as instructed by supervisor or manager.
- Utilize a wide variety of hand, portable and machine tools to perform assignments.

E ducation
- College degree preferred but High school diploma or general education degree (GED) will be accepted; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
E xperience
- 5 to 7 years related experience and/or training.
Skills
- Requires a well-rounded and experienced knowledge of the practices, tools, equipment and materials used in assigned skill trade area.
- Some knowledge of PC controlled equipment preferred.
- Needs to be able to effectively communicate with, and explain problems to, multiple layers in the organization. This includes technical (e.g., coworkers, supervisor, and manager) and non-technical (e.g., other managers, support groups, etc.).
L Anguage Skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and electrical schematics.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
M Athematical Skills
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
