About the Position
The process specialist will be responsible for understanding, controlling and improving the manufacturing processes at the Candiac Wheat Starch and Gluten facility. The primary purpose of the position is to apply sound engineering practices to ensure smooth, consistent operations and to improve yields/recoveries while minimizing costs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Own process KPIs, and work with facilities to monitor, control and improve
- Assess and document process flows, and subsequently formulate and execute modifications to improve the process
- Optimize unit operations, identity and address automation issues to ensure process stability and efficiency
- Document and implement Standard Operating Procedures relating to process control
- Support and develop local teams to increase awareness and knowledge of the wheat starch and gluten manufacturing process
- Support plant projects including the front-end loading (FEL) process. Lead the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and equipment commissioning
- Drive cultural change within a plant to ensure that plant processes are able to operate at optimum levels consistently over time
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Dedication to working safely and to the awareness for the safety of others
- Ability to effectively coach and develop other colleagues
- Deep understanding of a variety of process unit operations, specifically relating to wheat starch and gluten process
- Should have an excellent command of the following skills: computers, communications, problem solving
- Knowledgeable of common process drawings and documentation
- Optimization and analytical processes and tools experience sing
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with plant personnel and management
- Communicate status updates and suggestions for improvements
- Must be bilingual – French / English
Education or Work Experience
- Degree in the fields of Chemistry, Food Processing, Production Manufacturing, Engineering, Technology, or other related field or 2+ years of experience with process control in an industrial environment.
- Experience in Process/Project with relevant experience in wheat starch and gluten processing an asset.

- Willingness to spend time in plant areas – tolerate high temperatures, walk long distances, stand, climb stairs and ladders and move through close spaces.
- Ability to work effectively on a team as well as independently
