In this position you will manage the R&D Operations Site throughout Hazera’s Breeding activities in Rilland (Zeeland, the Netherlands) and its external growers in the Netherlands. The Site Manager will have the responsibility to directly manage and develop the Operations team to execute R&D activity in Greenhouses (Nkas) and Fields, to coordinate, implement and to support breeding programs and technology projects. This accountability will assume 80% of the position scope.
In addition, you will coordinate the 3 NL Operations sites (Rilland, Made and Warmenhuizen) to consolidate and lead planning, budgeting and processes alignment. The coordination will be through the counterpart site managers and a direct reporting planner. This accountability will assume 20% of the position scope.
For this position, Hazera Seeds is seeking an enthusiastic, results oriented and highly communicative individual with strong agricultural background.
You will be a member of the Global R&D Operations Leadership Team and will have close interaction with colleagues across Hazera’s R&D organization, Product Development and Seed Production.
You will be based mainly at our site location in Zeeland and you will need to travel periodically to the other Hazera’s R&D sites.
R&D Operations site Manage role & responsibilities (80% scope):
- Manage greenhouses (Nkas) and fields growing activities to verify readiness and outcomes as required and on time per breeding program and related seasonality
- Oversee and assure aligned planning for all plant raising in greenhouse compartments, net houses and open field related activities
- Lead and implement strict sanitation, safety and quality policies
- Routinely engage with direct reporting managers, team leads and crop specialists to facilitate improvements and track execution
- Establish required protocols and processes to be followed and standardized
- Liaise with breeding managers on programs plans and develop operational plan and budget
- Prepare and present periodically activity performance reviews, quantitative and qualitative analysis, ensure data driven decision making based on defined KPIs
- Create and verify continuous improvement roadmap execution
- Initiate investment projects, from planning to execution, collaborate with supporting functions to consolidate an approved plan. Track and execute according to milestones and expected deliverables.
NL Operations Coordinator Role & Responsibilities (20% scope):
- Manage planner to develop labor and capacity models which will support the site’s activities planning
- Coordinate budget requirements on annual and seasonal level, drive for cost efficiency, control actuals vs. plans
- Map and synchronize NL Operations processes to seek for high-level processes standardization, collaborations between sites, flawless processes and alignment with safety, quality and phytosanitary requirements
- Lead the implementation of Operational systems across the sites, verify readiness and track correct use of it
Job requirements
- Bachelor in agronomy (crop science or similar field) or strong experience (> 10 years) in relevant roles
- Proven strong people management skills, with past experience managing directly > 10 people
- Strong project management experience
- Background in field or vegetable crop (preferred), hands-on experience in agricultural activities (irrigation systems, crop monitoring, etc.), field trialing and/or vegetables greenhouses operations (strong advantage)
- Knowledge of operational practices, logistics and planning (Lean concepts advantage)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and strong problem-solving capabilities
- Expertise in MS Office and data analysis applications
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically frequently and to work under variable environmental conditions associated with field trial work
- Fluent in English and Dutch (must) languages
- Valid driver’s license
