About This Role
This will be an onsite, hands-on role creating end-to-end working prototypes for our R&D team. This position will be the first Mechanical Engineer to join our Brooklyn lab location.
Responsibilities
- Creates functional, end-to-end experimental prototypes and benchtop mechanical devices for the R&D and Product Development teams
- Creates rapid-prototyped proofs of concept for mechanical devices using off-the-shelf materials or fabricated parts, as needed
- Works with R&D team and Product Development team to translate small-scale manual processes to early-stage benchtop mechanical prototypes
- Advises and coordinates with R&D and Manufacturing teams to source or engineer larger scale equipment suitable for manufacturing, based on benchtop R&D prototypes
- Brainstorms and researches new ways to produce and manufacture products and prototypes on an ongoing basis
Requirements
- Mechanically inclined, creative, and obsessed with building and problem solving
- Collaborative working style and ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; or at least 2 years of work experience in a relevant field with demonstrated skills and a portfolio of prior work.
- Excellent fabrication skills and a working knowledge of 3D CAD programs such as SolidWorks, or equivalent
- Good time management, project management, and record-keeping skills.
- Experience with fluid dynamics, extrusion, liquid handling, or experimental forms of 3D printing is a major plus
- Familiarity with food science, food manufacturing, biotechnology or chemistry is a plus
