The Probiotic Development (PD) Stability Team investigates the performance of our probiotics over time, enabling optimal product formulation and ensuring our portfolio meets quality standards. The team also plays an essential role in the development of next-generation probiotics. The Associate Scientist will actively contribute to these important studies.
The ideal candidate for the position will demonstrate a high level of scientific potential and be self-motivated with a desire to learn. The primary duties of the position will be bacterial plating, enumeration, data entry, and analysis; the Associate Scientist will also be expected to execute additional research projects with minimal supervision. These projects may use standard microbiological techniques or molecular methods to study bacterial viability, new probiotic delivery formats, next generation probiotic development, or customer-specific projects.
Active participation in weekly lab meetings and occasional oral presentation of project results are mandatory requirements of the position. The ability to maintain complete and accurate records is essential. Media preparation and dish washing are expected of the position on a rotating basis, when necessary.
Collaboration with PD team members, other IFF employees and external stakeholders is essential to the position. The Associate Scientist may also represent the PD team on various IFF committees and may engage in sitewide activities such as community outreach, educational science fairs, and employee appreciation/recognition events.

Essential requirements for consideration:
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biology or related discipline, or equivalent experience
- Proven mastery of microbiological aseptic technique
- Understanding of microbiological enumeration techniques
- Ability to independently execute and analyze scientific research studies with minimal supervision
- Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
Highly qualified candidates will possess experience with:
- Obligate anaerobe microorganisms
- Flow cytometry
- Digital PCR
