Supervise and direct activities of hourly on shift maintenance crafts people and interface closely with Maintenance Scheduler/Planner. Provide electrical and instrumentation support to operations through troubleshooting, continuous improvement activities and direction of E/I resources and contractors. Manage and maintain all electrical distribution, process instrumentation and DCS systems to maximize plant uptime and operational efficiencies in a safe and high-quality manner. Work to ensure continuous improvement in all these areas through new technology introduction and use of maintenance best practices.
Electrical & Instrumentation
• Responsible that work execution of the E&I is performed safely, efficiently, and effectively according to the maintenance plan;
• Responsible to re-direct maintenance resources to respond to production, environmental and safety emergencies;
• Responsible for all site E&I utilities, maintenance contracts, facility and infrastructure engineering;
• Establish short- and longer-term maintenance priorities in conjunction with maintenance planning and scheduling;
• Schedule and tracks E&I work schedules (i.e., time worked, overtime, time-off scheduling, etc);
• Establish work standards to maximize individual accountability to optimize productivity and efficiency;
• Determine plant equipment and maintenance supply needs;
• Assess training needs and recommends development plans for mechanics;
• Participle in development and implementation plant preventive and predictive maintenance programs to ensure compliance with operational, cGMP, and safety and environmental standards;
• Work in conjunction with Maintenance Engineer to coordinate plant construction activities between construction contractors, maintenance, engineering and other plant departments;
• Work in conjunction with Maintenance Engineer to plan and implement maintenance activities relative to planned plant shutdowns;
• Support production operations through the effective troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of equipment and systems in field installations. This includes electrical distribution, electrical equipment, process instrumentation and DCS hardware and software.
• Interface with the Project Engineers, CAD Engineers and Process Engineers to determine electrical and instrumentation specifications.
• Interfaces with Control Engineer to:
- Evaluate new instrumentation technologies to improve existing systems and resolve process and safety problems.
- Develop and implements expert systems software by writing programs to run on DCS.
• Perform software configurations for digital controllers and PLCs.
• Manage the Calibration Management System (Document) to ensure compliance with ISO, customer and internal quality validations.
• Responsible for developing and maintaining loop drawings and E & I drawings with CAD operator assistance.
• Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Process Safety Management
• Maintain and review systems which impact process safety (procedures, process change, refresher training, new installation training, etc.) such that the integrity of the management system is maintained in areas of maintenance.
Safety, Health, and Environment/ Quality and Food Safety
• Support quality & food safety, EHS policies and procedures by ensuring that all maintenance work and engineering projects assigned have been critically reviewed for safety & health considerations.
• Provide training assistance and coaching whenever possible to ensure employee safety awareness and practices are of a high standard.
• Monitor and ensure completion of periodic inspections as outlined in the facilities inspection manual, to ensure safety and reliability of equipment.
• Act as a liaison with inspection and insurance agencies in terms of annual equipment inspections, insurance related inspections, provincial/federal mandated inspections and IFF regulated inspections.
• Ensure that engineering projects are completed in such a way that the work supports existing environmental regulations.
• Conduct investigations into any system failures and develop and implement programs to prevent re-occurrence.
• Participate in site Environmental Health and safety programs, behavioral based safety, Hazard Recognition, Hazard identification, Environmental Aspect , emergency response, audits and emergency response activities as required.
• Participate in site quality programs, behavioral based quality & food safety activities, audits and risk base on quality & food safety activities as required.
• Follow cGMP&HACCP Practice.
Budgeting/Purchasing/Cost Control
• Improve equipment reliability through innovative modifications and preventive maintenance in order to enhance favorable performance against the department's budget and maximize equipment uptime and efficiencies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education / Experience
• Electrical Diploma or equivalent. plus 12-18 years of relevant experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Instrumentation engineering or equivalent plus 7-10 years of relevant experience;
• Experience as multi-craft maintenance supervisor preferred but not required;
• Good working knowledge and understanding of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems with working knowledge of SAP highly desirable.
• Hands on experience in chemical industry and food processing is prefer.
• Minimum 3-5 years in an Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering role, preferably in a pharmaceutical or food manufacturing environment.

• Excellent Computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, and SAP & DCS experience is preferred)
