Who we are
Calidris Bio is a startup company who develops fermentation processes to produce Microbial Protein.
Using our technology, we produce a high-quality vegan protein with a low environmental footprint.
We are currently scaling the process to develop the food market and to launch the product in the feed market.
Where
Our laboratory is located at the BlueChem incubator for sustainable chemistry (Olieweg 95, Antwerp, Belgium). Calidris Bio is working alongside other startup companies that want to develop sustainable innovations for the chemistry/biotechnology of the future.
General role
In close collaboration with the Calidris Bio team, you will play a central role in the development of the production process and the evaluation of the products’ functional and physiological properties. You will focus on creatively optimizing solutions to ensure their success.
Responsibilities
• Running the lab and assuring a safe operation and good maintenance of the laboratory equipment and test instruments
• Performing and documenting research activities, with the aim of
Optimizing the fermentation processes. These will mainly be fermentation experiments with bioreactors, and product purification
Evaluating the functional properties and physiological effects of the product
• Communicate your experiments in team meetings and in written reports
• Maintaining laboratory notes that thoroughly, neatly, and accurately record all research activities.
• Planning, organizing, performing, and documenting research activities, with the aim of optimizing the fermentation processes and assessing functional and physiological properties of the product
Qualifications
• Master or professional Bachelor degree in Food technology (or Life Sciences with experience in Food technology)
• Broad interest in process technology i.e. fermentation processes, purification and assessment of functional and physiological properties
• Strong collaborative and organizational skills
• Ability to work autonomously
• Hands-on mentality and the ability to deal with technical challenges
• Good communication skills and a good knowledge of English. Knowledge of Dutch is a plus.
