About This Job
Synonym’s Director of Marketing will be responsible for defining and executing on our overall demand generation strategy across several product offerings. This will include creating a marketing playbook, developing brand and product marketing materials, leading demand generation, and managing external communications including social content, fostering relationships with press and building a strong community around the bioeconomy’s thought leaders.
Synonym’s Director of Marketing will report to the Chief Business Officer and closely work with other members of the team.
Outcomes and Mandate
Product Marketing & Demand Generation:
Work closely with Business Development stakeholders to define and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy aligned with business objectives
This will include market research and segmentation to better understand target customers needs – particularly among the Fortune 500 and the synbio ecosystems
Use several different modalities (discussed further below) to spur potential users to our products
Develop product marketing assets, such as case studies, landing pages, and pitch decks, to accelerate Business Development efforts
SEO and Paid Marketing:
Develop and implement effective SEO strategies to improve organic search rankings and drive relevant traffic to the company website.
Ensure SEO best practices are incorporated in all content, including blog posts, landing pages, and product descriptions.
Plan, execute, and manage campaigns on platforms such as Google Ads and Linkedin advertising channels.
Create and optimize ad copy, landing pages, and bid strategies to maximize ROI and achieve campaign goals.
Conduct A/B testing to identify the most effective ad creatives and targeting strategies.
Analyze and report on campaign performance, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
External Communications, Evangelism & Brand:
Social
Maintain and own Synonym’s social media calendar – with a primary focus on LinkedIn
Write engaging, savvy social copy for Synonym’s social media channels
Create graphics, GIFs, videos, and other visual content
Analyze social media data, create reports and recommendations
Create and execute a strategy to expand our reach and engagement through social channels
Brand
Define and own the Synonym visual, and storytelling brand
Own and implement brand guidelines across the company
Press Relations
Build relationships with relevant trade press and journalists
Generate press coverage across top media outlets
Write press releases, pitching materials and other supporting documents
Develop PR stories, pitches, media and thought leader activations for the brand
Community Management
Build and maintain thought leader lists and track success across campaigns
Identify and build relationships with thought leaders in the bioeconomy
Monitor relevant industry conversations and engage with stakeholders
Events
Plan and execute Synonym’s attendance and sponsorship at industry events
Maintain event calendar and end-to-end execution of event attendance (buying tickets, creating prospect lists, planning onsite meetups, etc.)
Organize and host webinars for key company milestones and discussions around the bioeconomy
Competencies
7-10+ years of marketing or community management experience working in-house or at an agency, preferably in the biotech, sustainability or capital markets sectors
Experience creating and executing on successful social (LinkedIn) campaigns
Experience cultivating successful relationships with traditional and digital media and strong media contacts and/or knowledge of media landscape across relevant industries
Experience articulating scientific and technical concepts to different audiences
Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail
Familiarity with paid media and tools such as Google AdWords, LinkedIn, Mailchimp, Figma
Experience managing external vendors such as (but not limited to) designers and agencies
Experience working in a early stage, fast growing startup preferred
Strong interest in biotech, food tech, capital markets, real estate or ESG preferred
