The Role
The Every Company is looking for a skilled Director of Process Development and Scale-Up to oversee our Process Development and Scale-Up team (USP and DSP). This role involves designing, developing, and scaling up fermentation, separation, and purification processes for various products. We seek a candidate who is enthusiastic about process development and has a proven track record of successfully managing process development and scale-up projects from bench scale to commercial production.
As the Director, you will provide both technical and strategic leadership to the Process Development & Scale-Up team, cultivating an environment that encourages team members to grow into future technical and strategic leaders. This senior role reports to the VP of Technology and thrives in a diverse, collaborative setting. Building effective relationships with peers, functional managers, and senior leadership is crucial for success. The Director will play a key role in advancing The Every Company's product pipeline, delivering kinder, safer and more sustainable outcomes for formulators, from food service to CPG.
What You’ll Accomplish
- Manage, mentor, and guide the process development team (USP and DSP) in creating economically viable fermentation, separation, and purification processes from bench to pilot to commercial scale.
- Provide strategic direction for USP and DSP process development initiatives, driving the expansion of both internal and external capabilities as needed.
- Ensure the teams develop scalable, robust, and cost-effective processes across a variety of products on schedule and on budget.
- Collaborate across technical, project management, manufacturing, commercial, and regulatory teams to set and achieve process development timelines, ensuring the teams have the necessary resources to complete projects.
- Define metrics on process performance and implement mechanisms for tracking and reporting of those metrics across the company.
- Contribute to identifying opportunities for changes in process and/or adding capital projects at external manufacturing facilities to achieve the lowest possible costs of goods.
- Lead process development activities with contract manufacturing sites, which includes travel (up to 25%).
- Maintain strong, transparent, and collaborative relationships within Technology and with Operations, Manufacturing, Commercial, and Regulatory teams, as well as senior leadership.
- Advocate for and adhere to all laboratory safety protocols.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive workplace culture.
What You Bring (required)
- Ph.D. in a relevant biotechnology field and at least 10 years of process development experience across all scales of industrial biochemical processing (bench, pilot, manufacturing).
- Proven experience leading, managing, and mentoring teams of scientists and engineers in the successful development, scale-up, and deployment of fermentation production and purification processes.
- Expertise in various fermentation, separation, and purification unit operations.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence through a balance of listening and speaking.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities, finding innovative solutions to problems.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams across various disciplines and levels.

Pay Range: $185,000 - $225,000 + Stock Options
At EVERY™ pay ranges are subject to change and assigned to a job based on the location specific market median of similar jobs according to 3rd party salary benchmark surveys. Individual pay within that range can vary for several reasons including skills/capabilities, experience, and available budget.
