The Research Laboratory Operations team oversees the strategic and operational management of over 270,000 genetically diverse, non-pathogenic, soil-borne microorganisms.

Job Description:

|
The successful candidate will support the Research Laboratory Operations team by assisting in the management and biobanking of a proprietary microbial strain collection. The candidate should be comfortable working with and without automated platforms to assist in strain propagation, reformatting of the collection, and archival. He/she will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance of our strain collection through solid and liquid bacterial strain propagation of genetically diverse non-pathogenic soil microorganisms.The candidate will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records and database entries for all strain tracking and traceability and will be expected to work with biosafety level 1 and 2 microorganisms according to external and internal biosafety guidelines.

Responsibilities:
|
|
- Assist in the management of our internal microbial strain collection
- Perform strain retrieval and propagation to support replication and reformatting efforts
- Collect and compile data and records in laboratory notebooks and other documentation systems (LIMSdatabase) to ensure sample tracking and chain of custody records are maintained
- Propagate microorganisms in solid and liquid formats under guidance and help determine appropriate medium to ensure growth and sporulation of microorganisms
- Perform cryopreservation of microorganisms using best practices to ensure long term storage stability and survivability
- Leverage robotics and other standard laboratory equipment to execute tasks
- Compliance with BSL-2 level biosafety guidelines
- Work within a team to ensure operational efficiency and quality is met through adherence to standard operating procedures and protocols.

Minimum Requirements:
|
|
- B.S./M.S. in microbiology or a related field with 0-2 years industry experience.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to collaborate within and across functional teams
- Self-starter able to work independently and take ownership of work
|
Preferred Capabilities and Experience:
|
|
- Experience with aseptic technique
- Experience with automation is preferred
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple, concurrent responsibilities
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, adaptability, and an ability to work under pressure
|
Total compensation for this role is market driven, with a starting salary of $72K+, as well as company stock awards. Base pay is ultimately determined based on a candidate's skills, expertise, and experience.
