The Role
The Senior Project Engineering Manager will have comprehensive ownership of mission-critical manufacturing systems and capital projects, ensuring optimal performance while maintaining the highest food safety standards. You'll lead a diverse team of engineers and technicians, driving innovation in automated production processes and facility improvements.
Core Responsibilities
Spearhead end-to-end capital project management, encompassing initial concept development, detailed engineering design, equipment installation, and process optimization while ensuring adherence to food safety protocols and regulatory requirements
Initiate and manage improvement projects to increase reliability, reduce operational expenses, and optimize production efficiency
Develop and execute comprehensive project plans with budgets ranging from €500K to €5M+, creating detailed resource allocation strategies and milestone-driven timelines
Build and mentor high-performing engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation while ensuring seamless collaboration between departments
Apply Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) concepts and lead root cause failure investigations to enhance system reliability
Establish robust project governance frameworks, including detailed technical documentation, SOPs, and compliance protocols
Lead data-driven continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities for automation and process optimization
Monitor system performance metrics, analyze trends, and develop solutions to improve operational efficiency
Cultivate and manage strategic supplier relationships, overseeing equipment procurement processes and complex system installations
Job requirements
Required Qualifications
Advanced degree (Bachelor's or Master's) in Engineering, preferably in Chemical, Mechanical, Food, or Process Engineering
8+ years of progressive experience in automated manufacturing project management, with substantial exposure to hygiene-critical industries
Comprehensive understanding of electromechanical principles and their application in equipment design, fabrication, and optimization
Demonstrated success in managing complex manufacturing projects, including greenfield installations and major facility upgrades
Outstanding leadership capabilities with proven experience in managing diverse, cross-functional teams
Advanced proficiency in project management methodologies (PMP certification is a plus)
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to process optimization
Business fluency in both German and English
Preferred Qualifications
In-depth knowledge of food safety standards and regulatory frameworks, including GMP and HACCP certification
Hands-on experience in extrusion processes, fiber spinning technologies, or textile manufacturing
Track record of successful novel machine design and implementation
Expertise in implementing advanced automation technologies, including PLC programming, SCADA systems, IoT integration, and industrial communication protocols
Experience in developing and implementing predictive and preventive maintenance strategies
Six Sigma certification or equivalent process improvement methodology
