Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The Senior Materials Planner plans, orders and administers direct and indirect material requirements to support the manufacturing build plan according to established procedures, practices and policies . The position requires one skilled in communicating effectively with other corporate groups and having the ability to effectively manage changes, including re-scheduling of purchase orders.
- Plan supply of assigned raw materials to ensure the plants are kept in supply for the short range and long range.
- Develop plans to effectively manage through material shortages, and c oordinate activities with sourcing, production scheduling, and R & D.
- Ens ure that the settings in the materia ls planning system are such that it is delivering materials on time to supply the plant and reduce materials inventories where appropriate
- Regularly review action messages in the planning system to determine if there are any problems to be addressed .
- Maintain processes and procedures necessary to support the planning and scheduling activities related to manufacturing, which include coordination of purchasing, production control and inventory control per MRP
- Support new products process by ordering in new materials as needed
- Orders and Releases direct material according to MRP requirements.
- Create purchase orders, blanket purchase releases or transfer orders for planned materials.
- Schedule deliveries of planned materials with the warehouse
- Manage inventory volumes of all planned items to target levels
- Ensure Pur chase Orders accuracy to include pricing, quantities and delivery dates
- Identify aging and obsolete materials inventory and create plans to use up or dispose of.
- Power user of MRP system.
- Trains and mentors material planners.
- Backup for other planners i n the department
- Other duties as assigned relevant to materials planning.

Qualifications And Skills

Education
- Bachelor's degree ( B. A. or B. S.) from four-year College or U niversity; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Some planning or APICS courses preferred.
Experience
- Four to six year s of experience in Planning/ Purchasing in a production environment preferably in the food industry preferred.
- Materials Planning Systems experience 3-5 years.
- Technical level expertise in planning, negotiation and contracting for specification of controlled and commodity materials.
- Microsoft Excel intermediate to advanced level.
Language Skills
- Ability to read, analyze , and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Effective communication shills with all levels of the organization.
- Strong English skills (both written and verbal) required .
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to analyze and solve basic math and algebraic problems .
- Capable of using the computer as a tool: spreadsheets, word processing and presentation skills . MRP experience preferred.
REASONING ABILITY and CREATIVITY
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills .
- Ability to creatively solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form . Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced team environment essential, with a high degree of flexibility and tolerance to change.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
APICs or ISM certification a plus.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move 10 to 25 pounds. No specific vision abilities are required for this position.
Work Environment
While performing the essential functions of the job the employee may be exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level is moderate. (Example: business office with computers and printers, light traffic .)
California Compensation Range: $75,200 - $112,800
- This range is for California employees who live in the Bay area. Other locations may be subject to a lower range.
