We are looking for our next Application Specialist I to develop applications that exhibits proven solution design ability with aptitude to continuously develop their skills and provide best in class support to IFF customers. Continues to extend knowledge of ingredients, customer bases, processes and flavor interactions in associated Category applications while developing project planning ability.
An Application Specialist Level I works independently on assigned projects and collaboratively on large and must-win projects (may vary based on business needs).
Responsbilities/Description:
The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to the following:
Project Management
- Independently manages time and projects for assigned tasks.
- Develops work plans to manage tasks and expectations in projects.
- Develops finished product formulations based on industrial standards, country-specific requirements, and customer requirements.
- Works on projects for key local, strategic, and regional customers with commercial success.
- Understands the applicable portfolio performance in broad spectrum of finished products and production processes.
- Continuously evolves/expands knowledge of ingredients for new product design and new concept generation.
- Participates in new concept generation.
Innovation & Technology
- Supports global and regional Applications and Category Growth Initiatives under the direction of manager.
- Demonstrates new ingredients technology in appropriate product concepts to creative & design teams and customers.
- Clear understanding and execution of Innovation processes from Dream to Deliver.
- Use creativity to develop new product concepts around the new technology developed by R&D.
- Recognize ingredient functionality in different finished products and incorporate new technology appropriately.
- May assist with process development of ingredients.
- May assist with the development of new products, and applications, literature search, technical reports, and patents.
- Customer Intimacy & Technical Partnership
- Provide technical services to customers as needed (troubleshooting).
- Demonstrates an understanding of customers, category markets, and consumer preferences.
- Works closely with Sales, Marketing and other departments to support project execution.
- Establishes relationships with strategic customers and related categories.
Leadership
- Shows a positive attitude and passion.
- Shares knowledge with the team.
- Demonstrates ability to work within a team, and between different departments.
- Maintain inventory and organization of the pilot plant.
Necessary Skills
- Hands-on experience in a lab setting. following GMP rules in a chemical and food laboratory.
- Be familiar with SAP, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PPT, and willingness to learn new tools.
- Familiar with sensory protocols, sample preparation, and designs.
- Exceptional mathematical skills are necessary. Must be able to calculate the cost in use of ingredients, converting percentage to ppm, serial dilutions of flavor ingredients, and calculating dosage levels of ingredients into the application.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with innovative ideas to apply in product design.
Job Requirement
- Minimum 4-5 years of working experience in the industrial food or ingredient plus a minimum of 2 years in the specific field of expertise. Experience in fats & oils and/or processed meat applications is a plus.
- The minimum entry level is a University/College Degree in Food Science and Technology or related disciplines (such as Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Biology). Masters in science preferred.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), organizational and interpersonal skills are necessary.
- Tasting and describing flavor/taste attributes.
- Travel may be required up to 2%.
- This position is considered an Anchor and requires working in the lab for 5 days/week.
