JOB SUMMARYThe Executive Director will serve as the chief administrator, providing leadership and implementing policies and programs to carry out the work of the organization. This position serves as the face of the Iowa Organic Association with the public and press.

ABOUT THE IOWA ORGANIC ASSOCIATIONSince 2006, IOA has been a statewide leader in advancing organic agriculture and food systems in Iowa by providing technical support, delivering educational programs and resources, organizing advocacy efforts, and strengthening community partnerships. Organic continues to be the fastest growing industry within the agriculture sector and the IOA continues to evolve to support the needs of Iowa’s growing organic community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESSupervisory Responsibilities:Oversee the daily administration of the organization by implementing policies, procedures, programs, including staff oversight.
Draft and implements performance standards; conducts performance reviews.
Direct human resources activities, including the approval of human resource plans or activities, the recruitment and selection of staff, or establishment of major departments within the organization.

Development ResponsibilitiesSecure major gifts as established by the strategic plan and fundraising strategy that meets and supports both annual and long-term goals.
Develop a communication strategy for reaching and recognizing current and potential donors.
Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward potential and current corporate sponsors and organization members.
Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and assist the board and other staff with their solicitations (e.g. provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and help with donor communications).
Write grants and oversees grant development as appropriate to fund programs and activities that meet organization mission and strategic plan objectives.
Coordinate with the board of directors, volunteer fundraisers, staff, and other stakeholders with public fundraising drives.

Other Duties/Responsibilities:Report to the Board of Directors, maintaining open communication and disclosure of the conditions, operations, and needs of the organization.
Draft, present, and recommend organizational policies and programs to the Board.
Direct or coordinate financial or budget activities to fund operations, maximize investments, or increase efficiency.
Prepare budgets for approval, including those for funding or implementation of programs.
Manage financial budgets, reports, and summaries (review monthly expenditures, file taxes, etc.)
Support and directs public relations activities to build and maintain relationships with IOA members, stakeholders, and the public.
Develop and implement communications and marketing content.
Attend IOA and stakeholder events or programs.
Execute other duties as requested by the Board of Directors.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Must be an Iowa resident.
Strong commitment to the mission, philosophy, and vision of the organization.
Proficient in MS Office, Google Suite, YouTube, and database management.
Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills; must be outgoing and willing to talk to people on the phone and in person.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate the organization’s mission and vision.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with government agencies, community leaders, and the public.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Must have a valid driver’s license, and car insurance or the ability to secure transportation to job sites.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
An understanding of organic farming, agriculture and/or local food systems in Iowa.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLSExperience working on a farm or with farmers
Three to five years of supervisory and leadership experience, in a non-profit setting.
Three to five years of experience related to agriculture, local food systems and organic farming.

Work remotely and independently.
Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
Frequent travel across the state of Iowa is required. Prolonged periods of sitting while driving.
May be required to work outside, in uncontrolled environments, and exposed to adverse weather conditions.
Able to traverse various types of terrain while in the field.

PAY RANGE

$70,000 – $85,000/year commensurate with experience.
