The goal of this project is to work in collaboration with partners in the Healthy Food Finance Initiative (New Mexico Economic Development, Vida major Capital, The Loan Fund, New Mexico State University, and the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market Institute) to build capacity in the middle of the regional food value supply chain. This work will range from producer to retail operations and is intended to provide needed training and technical assistance to increase knowledge about economic opportunities, improve business sustainability and resiliency, and provide equitable access to affordable financing. This project directly addresses issues of poverty and equity by working directly within historically underserved communities to provide more economic opportunities and food access by and for the community. It offers pathways to sustainable economic independence to community members by empowering them to start and/or expand processing, value-added production, storage and distribution, and retail operations.

Member Duties : The VISTA will: 1) Develop appropriate communication materials to engage and connect with communities & individuals about their farming investment and resource needs. 2) Create portfolios of entrepreneurial individuals and organizations who are interested in learning more about capacity building and services offered by the Healthy Food Finance Initiative partners. Provide navigation services to connect with entrepreneurial support, financial services, and workshops to obtain resources for support of the local food system. 3) Build the network to fulfill ancillary business needs. 4) Create a system for reporting to the HFFI Partnership. Develop a replicable model for increasing capacity of the regional food economy.
