Join us as our new Research Associate/Senior Research Associate
We are seeking a Research Associate or Senior Research Associate to join our Biochemical Analytics and Automation Department within our R&D site located in Davis, California. The site of 60+ employees in Davis works together to unlock the potential of bacteria, yeast and filamentous fungi as biological solutions to address the needs in our world. We foster a collaborative environment with a shared vision for pursuing science that has an impact, by working smart and enjoying the scientific journey.
In this role you’ll make an impact by:
Characterizing engineered bacterial, yeast, and fungal strains, enzymes and other proteins by generating analytical and biochemical data in the lab.
Preparing samples for analysis by LC-MS, GC-MS, UPLC, and enzyme-based spectrophotometic assays
Analyzing analytical data and sharing results and reports with local and global teams in a timely manner
Documenting experimental efforts in Benchling
Developing & validating new analytical chemistry and biochemistry methods
Actively improving existing assay methods and analysis workflows for increased throughput or efficiency with lab automation and data processing skills.
May contribute to protein and enzyme purification & characterization.
To succeed you must hold:
BS (3 + years relevant industry experience) or MS in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Molecular Biology or equivalent.
Strong written and oral communication skills for sharing science and project updates
AT LEAST TWO examples where you have hands on experience executing the following in the lab. Please describe specific examples in your cover letter.
HPLC, UPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS sample preparation and method development
Bioassay and enzyme assay development and execution (e.g. colorimetric, fluorescent assays, ELISA, or other)
Protein expression, production, and purification
Performing screens in strain engineering or protein engineering contexts
Prior experience with one or more of the following is especially beneficial in this position:
Metabolomics sample preparation and solid-phase extraction (SPE) methods
Operation and maintenance of Agilent LC/GC-MS systems (QQQ, QTOF)
Operating and programming liquid handling robots (Biomek, Hamilton, or Opentrons)
Familiarity with statistical software including JMP
R, Python coding experience for scientific data analysis. Prior efforts to automate chemical analytical data processing are especially interesting.
Familiarity with Benchling or other similar electronic laboratory notebook system

Expected salary range: $70,000-$93,000
Position will be hired at a level commensurate with relevant experience.
