Job Summary
Responsibilities:
Functional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Provide assay support to our fermentation, recovery and formulation groups, using primarily colorimetric assays.
• Operate and maintain automated enzymatic assay equipment and other analytical instruments as needed.
• Buffer and reagent prepration.
• Frequently use of analytical pipettes and analytical balances for volumetric and gravimetric dilutions.
• Stocking lab with necessary supplies.
• Continuous improvement efforts to improve process safety, increase quality, service levels, efficiency, and reliability.
Job Requirements:
• A.A. or a related degree in a physical science, biological science, or related field.
• Basic understanding of assay principles such use of standard curves and assay controls.
• Experience in buffer and reagent prepration.
• Experience with UV-vis spectrometers.
• Experience with using analytical pipettes and analytical balances for volumetric and gravimetric dilutions.
• Experience with using word processing and data analysis software (MS Word and Excel), and computer-based systems for operating instruments.
• Possess good record-keeping skills and excellent attention to detail
• Ability to wear general lab PPE (boots, safety glasses and gloves).
The following are preferred:
• B.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Biology.
• 2+ years of applicable lab experience.
• Familiarity with liquid handling robots.
• Experience running microtiter plate based assays.
• Demonstrate strong sense of self-motivation and ability to work under minimal supervision.
• Team player with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience creating change, coordinating with co-workers/teammates in meeting expectations, and improving work efficiency.
• Demonstrate an ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.Technical Expertise / Knowledge / Problem Solving:
•Develops and executes routine experiments, investigations and work tasks based on past results and under the direction of a
supervisor.
•Understands basic scientific principles involved in lab experiments and develops experiments based on past results.
•Collects experimental data and documents results.
•Prioritization of multiple assignments is done by supervisor.
Scientific and Engineering Methodologies:
•Generates fundamental understanding of materials, equipment, technologies, production processes.
•Utilizes equipment, instrumentation or computer applications to generate data.
•Recognizes unexpected or erroneous results.
•Business, Competitor, Market and Customer Expertise and Impact
•Understands short-term business objectives of current assignment. Aware of customers and their importance in achieving goals.
Intellectual Property and Documentation:
•Effectively manages confidential information and provides input for Research Reports and Invention Disclosures.
Communication:
•Effectively communicates results of short term tasks or projects to supervisor. Effectively communicates with team.
Collaborative Leadership:
•Understands role within the work group.
•Interacts with colleagues within team to understand objectives/complete work in the required time frame.
•Submits requests and provides direction to service personnel.
