Ginkgo Biosecurity is building next-generation biosecurity infrastructure and deploying the technologies global leaders need to predict, detect, characterize, and respond to a wide variety of biological threats.
Role Introduction:
You will be the final decision maker on high level technical decisions and responsible for the overall architecture of our systems. You will work with the Software Team to ensure the architecture is implemented as intended and refine it as new knowledge arises from implementation.
In order to succeed in this role you need a track record of successful software delivery, be up to date with current technologies (especially AWS), be able to create proof of concepts and communicate technical concepts and decisions concisely and accurately. You will thrive if you are a self-starter motivated to bring organism engineering to new heights.
Responsibilities
- Define, maintain and communicate Biosecurity's Software Architecture with input from the Software Team
- Collaborate with the Product Management and Software Teams to define and track roadmaps for implementation of the architecture
- Lead a small team of Engineers
- Make Build vs Buy decisions
- Research third party software assets and identify candidates to add to the Biosecurity portfolio
- Create proof of concepts for major software components
- Collaborate with the Data team to ensure our Data Architecture will support analytics across the organization
- Champion and implement continuous process improvements to enhance productivity
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s + minimum 15 years of experience OR Masters + minimum 10 years of experience
- 5 years of AWS experience
- Superb communication skills with all stakeholders
- Proficiency in agile development.
- Demonstrated ability to break down complex problems into actionable steps.
- Excited to work with the best scientists and engineers to develop new data tools to solve never-before-seen scientific challenges.
- Superior troubleshooting skills in large system
- Experience managing Engineers/ small teams
Preferred Capabilities and Experience
- Industry experience in biology, biological engineering, synthetic biology, or a related field.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple, concurrent responsibilities
- Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment
- Eagerness to support Biosecurity's goals, with a strong drive to help our initiative succeed
Total compensation for this role is market driven, with a starting salary of $180k+, as well as company stock awards. Base pay is ultimately determined based on a candidate's skills, expertise, and experience. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental & vision coverage, health spending accounts, voluntary benefits, leave of absence policies, Employee Assistance Program, 401(k) program with employer contribution, 8 paid holidays in addition to a full-week winter shutdown and unlimited Paid Time Off policy.
