At MyForest Foods, we grow and harvest mycelium in vertical farms, producing large structures that resemble whole cuts of meat in as little as 12 days. We then slice these meaty “cuts” and season them to perfection in a traditional brine recipe. MyBacon® is the first of many mycelium-based meatless alternatives. This role performs necessary operational functions, including preparing and producing samples, transportation of raw materials, processing materials, and packaging of finished samples for shipping.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Package and transport raw materials
- Process raw materials into finished samples
- Use industrial kitchen equipment
- Scale up production capacity as required
- Transport finished samples into appropriate storage facilities
- Prepare finished samples for shipping and assist with material shipping
- Inventory materials and ingredients
- Procure materials and ingredients
- Hosting culinary events as needed
- Collaborate with team on kitchen requirements, research vendors, and make recommendations to management to build out an appropriate production environment and test kitchen
- Comply with and inform the Food Safety Plan
- Demonstrates commitment to safety of themselves, others, and the workplace in general; actively points out ways to improve safety on the job
- Demonstrates alignment with company values
- Other ad-hoc duties and projects from time to time and based on business needs
Minimum Qualifications and Competencies
- Food production experience in a culinary or manufacturing environment, preferably with produce and/or vegetarian products
- Comfortable with industrial kitchen environment
- Excited about the meat alternative market with ability to compare traditional products to alternative meat products. We may be able to make an exception for a vegan or vegetarian, but a flexitarian would be a great fit for this role
- Comfortable working around sharp knives, deli slicers, stoves, ovens, and industrial dishwashers
- NYS Driver’s license and reliable transportation to transport raw materials and finished product
- ServSafe and/or HACCP/HARPC certifications preferred
- Emphasis on quality control and cleanliness
- Conforms to safe practices
- Requires a level of interpersonal skills sufficient to work closely with team members
- Good verbal and written communication
- Confidence in suggesting ideas and receiving feedback on ideas

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to squat, use hands and fingers, handle objects or controls, talk and hear, reach with hands and arms, and lift objects. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This position will be regularly exposed to an industrial kitchen environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
The pay range for this job based on skills and experience starts at $18.00/hr to $22.00/hr.
